Our Bloom Trustees wanted to encourage our nurses to look after themselves and take a much needed break so bought them some breakfast as a big thank you for all their hard work. I must say it looks lovely!
As this was outside the strict terms of the charity, but very much in accordance with the ethos behind it. Our trustees all contributed out of their own pockets to provide the breakfast. They're a great bunch :)

A recent concert by USA Grammy winning guitarist John Jorgenson helped to raise £929 for Liverpool based blood cancer charity The Bloom Appeal. The stellar musician and his Electric Band certainly know how to Rock out. The capacity audience at the Haig House Club were spellbound by his fantastic fretboard wizardry, and he sent them home smiling.
At Bloom one of our aims is to help improve the well-being of patients, whilst supporting & investing in the development of medical staff. So of course we jumped at the chance to sponsor nurses, Clare, Sian, Leah, Andrea & Angela to attend @The European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation conference in Germany. They were able to expand their knowledge about the latest developments in stem cell transplantation, which will help them improve patient care & help limit post transplant complications.
Thank you & well done to Mark & Linda for completing the Spring 10k yesterday, 5th May 2019 in the wind & rain to raise funds for Bloom. Also a huge well done to their grandchildren, Harry & Sam for completing the kids 1k on Saturday, 4th May 2019🥇

One thing guaranteed to make scientists smile is new equipment! So we were very happy to fund a new PCR block for Professor Dave MacEwan's lab in the Institute of Translational Medicine at the University of Liverpool. Prof MacEwan's group study survival pathways in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia with the aim of identifying new avenues for therapy. Pictured beside the shiny new gorgeous machine are Masters of Research students Elisha and Jack.

Last year, treatment for solid tumour cancers and blood cancers were brought together in Liverpool for the first time. Now, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is building a brand new cancer hospital in the heart of the city.
Many teenagers and young people are affected by blood cancers, so we've teamed up with Clatterbridge to fund a brand new unit at the hospital for these patients. It'll be a dedicated space for youngsters to receive their cancer treatment, with access to the facilities and services they need, specialist staff and a space where they can chill out and socialise with people their own age.
But we need your help! Every step is a step closer to that £100,000 we need to build this incredible unit.
Our lovely craft ladies from St Anne's will be selling their gorgeous creations and raising funds for Bloom this Saturday, 1st December. So why not head along to St Margaret's School, Aigburth Road where you can pick up some lovely personal gifts or some of our fantastic Christmas cards.
We are thrilled to be joining forces with CCC in a bid to raise £100,000 for the Teenage & Young Adult (TYA) unit at Liverpool’s first cancer hospital. Due to the risk of infection after treatment, young patients can spend weeks in hospital. The TYA is a place they can go to relax, communicate with friends, through Skype and use the game consoles. Chris shares his story about his journey to diagnosis, treatment and the benefits of having access to the TYA.
If you would like to get involved and help raise funds for this fabulous project then please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.

Barbara is walking to raise money for the Bloom Appeal as a thank you to the teams who helped saved her life. Her aim is to raise enough money to contribute meaningfully to on-going research and care.
Barbara’s dog, Kiwi is also completing the walk to raise funds for her second charity, Animal Free Research UK. Barbara says, “I am painfully aware of the cost of my treatment to animal lives. I did not have the courage to refuse treatment for conscience sake but now want to help work towards a time when the use of live animals can be replaced by micro-technology and other alternatives”.

The staff at UC24 organised an EASTER BONNET WEEKEND during which bonnets were made, turbans worn and baskets - some full of sweets adorned their call centre during the Easter Weekend.
Whilst this generated a lot of goodwill and some laughs, this also raised £ 170.00 for the Bloom Appeal.
Staff at the call centre generously posed with their best smiles and bonnets.
So excited for this event, get your dancing shoes on!!

We are very happy to say that for the next year we will be supporting our local Liverpool Blood Diseases Bank for leukaemia and lymphoma research. For nearly 30 years they have collected material from patients who have kindly donated samples for research. Biobank manager, Dr Melanie Oates (pictured) said that they are thrilled by the Bloom Appeal's support as the samples they collect are currently being used in approx 20 projects in the research labs. Also pictured are some of the items required to collect and process these samples.
This is Jenny. Jenny is an MLA Associate Practitioner in the Immunophentoyping Lab at the Royal. Every week they receive in excess of 100 patient samples and an average of 5 slides for each sample is stored. Part of Jenny's work is preparing the slides for curating and archiving. Its a big job but the Bloom Appeal has bought Jenny a machine that will help her lots so she can spend her time helping diagnose blood malignancies. Jenny is very happy...and so are we. Thanks to all our supporters who helped us help Jen!
